About
Andrea is a writer/director from Northern Ireland. Her first short film The Flyer premiered at the Edinburgh Int’l Film Festival and played at other major festivals internationally, subsequently winning a BAFTA Scotland new talent award in 2008. She attended the National Film & Television School from 2009-2011, making a further four short films including the graduation film For Megan, which first screened at Encounters last November and recently received a Special Mention for Best Student Short at the London Short Film Festival, 2012. Andrea currently has a further two NFTS short films on festival release – Waterbaby, which premiered at the 55th BFI London Film Festival last October, and Communion, which was shortlisted for Best New Short at the London Short Film Festival and has been selected to participate in the new Berlinale Film Cloud – a curated space for film professionals. She completed a unique mentoring scheme through BBC NI and Northern Ireland Screen in 2011, which involved on-set training in directing television drama.
With a background in drama and theatre arts, Andrea is enthusiastic about working with professional and inexperienced actors alike – capturing a variety of characters with emotional depth. She is passionate about exploring and understanding relationships, often taking inspiration from her experience of conflict and tension whilst growing up in Northern Ireland. Andrea creates subtle, cinematic films with engaging and eventful narratives and is open to exploring a variety of genres.
